Annual One-Day Event: Music in The Gardens
Displays Outlet | Annual One-Day Event: Music in The Gardens

I’m counting down to July 19th for the Long Beach Peninsula Garden Tours! Known as “Music in the Gardens,” this annual one-day event showcases different gardens each year and has been delighting visitors since its inception in 2006.

Patty Jacobson, a passionate local gardener, brought together a community of fellow gardeners who open their stunning, thoughtfully designed gardens for public enjoyment. Each garden offers a serene retreat, filled with creative yet natural landscaping and lush greenery. Many of the gardeners graciously provide refreshments and snacks, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the peaceful ambiance. You’ll experience live music in a setting free from modern distractions—no TV, no smartphones, no social media. While I appreciate modern life with all its conveniences, July 19th is my day to escape the chaos and simply breathe.

If you’re planning to attend, remember that private homes on the tour don’t have public restrooms, but the provided map highlights restroom locations throughout the Peninsula. Wear comfortable walking shoes and prepare for the possibility of rain, as the Long Beach Peninsula’s Mediterranean climate can bring occasional summer showers. Note that pets are not allowed on the tour—no dogs, no cars, no commotion, just tranquility. Tickets are available online one week prior to the event and on the day itself. You can buy your tickets online.

One thing I’ve noticed over the years is the lack of event brochures in literature display holders. Am I the only one? I would love to collect a unique brochure from each year as a keepsake since the gardens change annually. It would be such a meaningful memento!

Last year, the tour included a lavender farm, which was absolutely enchanting. The farm’s boutique offered a variety of lavender-themed items, and I couldn’t resist buying teapots, cups adorned with lavender motifs, and even a lavender-painted rolling pin. Walking through the lavender paths and capturing photos was magical—something I highly recommend. This year, I’ll be on the lookout for brochures in every literature holder or brochure holders and displays I see!

In closing, I wholeheartedly encourage you to experience the garden tour at least once. Trust me, you’ll be hooked!

Rules are Meant to Be Broken! Or Are They?
If you know my sister, you’d describe her as disciplined, a by-the-book kind of person who sticks to the rules but still knows how to have fun within those boundaries. One summer during primary school, we spent our break at our uncle’s beach house. Every day, after breakfast, we’d head to the beach with our cousins, ...
